Dear Friends:
Welcome back to Andrew Hudson's Jobs List!
I'm been on vacation for the past couple of weeks in Eastern Europe and will return in late June. Rest assured, AH Jobs List will continue to post jobs in the weekly edition as well as daily jobs in the "Jobs That Just Can't Wait" section.
Stop the Stinking Thinking!
In meeting with hundreds of job seekers over the years, I see a very common occurrence. I ask a job seeker to tell me about their job search and they immediately rattle off a dozen reasons why they are NOT getting hired.
I'm too old.
I’m too young.
I'm too inexperienced.
I'm overqualified.
There are no jobs that fit my skills.
My resume stinks.
I'm not good at interviewing.
I don't know how to network.
In other words, they have already created a negative rationale that has defined their job search.
Now granted, looking for a job is a challenge and it requires a level of skill that many job seekers simply haven’t developed yet. Sending out dozens of resumes and not hearing back or even getting to an interview and then not getting the job is difficult to swallow, and we tend to take this rejection and rationalize WHY we are being rejected. But too often these rationalizations are phony; we just guess as to why we were rejected and pretty soon, we have an arsenal of negative perceptions about ourselves that has completely eroded our confidence. As a result, we start to believe these negative thoughts and instead of approaching our job search from the confident perspective with the valuable talents, skills, experiences, expertise and accomplishments we possess, we instead, let these negative thoughts define our worth.

Hit the proverbial 'DELETE' button in your head and clear all the negative stinking thinking out of your mind. Replace the list of reasons you believe you are NOT getting hired with a list of all the valuable reasons an employer SHOULD be giving you job offer.
Write a short narrative describing yourself; your background, your expertise, your accomplishments and the value you would add to an organization.
After you’ve done that, go back and reassess your job search.
Does your resume showcase your most valuable skills and expertise? Are you applying for jobs that are aligned with your most relevant skills? Are you targeting organizations that would be most receptive to your background and experience?
Finally, practice answering the questions that will inevitably be asked at a job interview: "Can you tell me about yourself?" and "Why should we hire you?"
Any successful salesperson will tell you that the most important aspect to a successful sale is convincing someone that you believe and have confidence in the product. In much the same way, whenever you open your mouth to talk about yourself, your need to be prepared be to convince an employer that you will bring value to their organization and that your skills and your background are what they need.
Bottom line: Stinking thinking will douse your confidence and can sabotage your job search. Begin the process of replacing negative thoughts about why you AREN’T getting hired with the flames of red hot confidence that describe why you SHOULD be getting hired!
Hey Job Seekers!
Want an edge? Post your Jobseeker Profile and get noticed!
If you are a job seeker, you want to spread the word that you are available! Every connection point, every network, every possible communication that is available to you should be screaming about your talents, backgrounds, accomplishments and availability!
Posting a Jobseeker Profile on AH Jobs List gets you noticed! Over and over again I hear from job seekers who are getting interviews after posting a Jobseeker Profile.
Employers are scanning these short profiles to identify talent for their companies. It is an easy and cost-effective way for HR recruiters to see your skills and identify talent for their organization.

I recently relocated to Denver after graduating from Florida State University this spring. I have a solid foundation in the integrated marketing realm, and am looking for full-time employment in public relations. During my senior year in college, I worked as account coordinator for an award-winning public relations agency. In addition, I worked at a full-service integrated marketing firm where I gained experience in all facets of marketing strategy such as research, branding, advertising, and web design. My well-rounded background has given me the confidence to step outside of the box and employ a combination of traditional tactics with a creative flavor to exceed client expectations. I have an extensive portfolio, and would love to earn the opportunity to prove how I will be of value to your team.
